of Sport entries for Thanksgiving Occasion Fair
weather is all that Lakeside workers on the Thanksgiving day celebration
ask; but rain or shine Chairman H. S. Kibbey says that the coming
affair promises to be the greatest ever held in San Diego County outside
of the city of San Diego. The
list of entries for the horse racing (confined to back country horses),
bronco busting, riding the bull and flag pull contests and turkey shoot
(these
events
open to everybody) is growing daily. Additional entries may
be made up to the 23rd by applying to Wallace Phillips, chairman of program
committee. Lakeside Cal. It
is now planned to devote the entire day to the celebration, finishing up
with an all-night dance. At 9 o'clock the reception committee will meet
the first trainload of visitors and conduct them to the grounds at 9:45.
The opening
address will be made by a prominent speaker, to be named at an early
date. The field sports will begin at 10:15, the first number being the boys
race, fifty yards, prize $1.50, followed by men's race, first prize
$3.50, second
prize $1.50; ladies' race, fifty yards, prize $2.50; girls race, fifty yards,
prize $2; ladies' egg race, prize $1; potato polo and ladies' horse
race. At 12 noon, Dorothy McLeod of Lakeside will ring the old fire alarm to call the crowd of pleasure seekers to the barbequed dinner. The
first number on the afternoon program will be the 300-yard horse race,
purse $20, followed by 400-yard horse race, purse $30; 600-yard horse
race (dash) for a purse of $50 (only back country horses will be
entered); novelty
race, auto, bicycle, horseback and afoot, prize $15; flag pull, prize
$5; ring tournament, $3; bronco busting, prize $25; riding the bull,
prize $25;
turkey shoot, all day, rifle and shotgun, prize $35. A
special rate of 70¢
for
the round trip from Third Street and Broadway
to Lakeside will be placed in effect by the S. D. & S. E. Railway. Article
