Riverview High School

In 1919 Lakeside's first High School classes were held upstairs in the Klauber-Wagenheim Building on the south-west corner of Maine and Sycamore, with Alice Gibson as teacher. In 1920, Riverview High School was built on Woodside Avenue, the present site of Lakeside Middle School. Children from the Grossmont District attended school here for four years, often riding the train from La Mesa and other areas. Grossmont High School was built in 1924 and the Lakeside School District purchased the Woodside building. That building was torn down in 1951 to make way for the present school. The only remembrance of the old school is the Flag Pole Memorial to Otto Marcks, long-time dedicated board member and respected lakeside citizen.
