El Monte was another school with classes being held in the Clarence Foster home until a school was constructed in 1914, which was washed away in the 1916 flood, then it was back to the Foster living room. John W. Fetters then built a school on higher ground on the south side of El Monte Road in 1917. Arthur B. Foster was one of the first trustees. When he died, his son, Clarence, was appointed and he remained on the Board of Education for many years. Foster Gymnasium at El Capitan High School was named in his memory.
