'Si' Sypolt was a 21 year Army career man serving part of his time in Korea. In 1946 he and his wife, Bobby, settled in Lakeside

Hugh Samuel "Sy" Sypolt (he would also answer to "Serge" as he was Master Sergeant in the US Army serving as a "cook." He joined the US Cavalry when he was 17. Sy was a 21 year Army career man serving part of his time in Korea .

In 1946 Sy and his wife, Violet Leona "Bobbie,"  settled in Lakeside. They owned the Old Lakeview School in 1947 when Sy was still in the Army. Sy and Bobbie sold the old school and bought a 10 acre ranch on Hwy 67 before being shipped to Korea in 1950. For years their produce and exhibits at the Del Mar Fair won many blue ribbons for them. They sold the ranch around 1960 and then moved to the Winter Gardens area.

Hugh taught ROTC at Hoover High School in San Diego . He later worked for the Lakeside School District in Maintenance.

Bobbie had a daughter Donna Grace from a previous marriage when she married Sy and together they had two children, Jackie Dean and Sammy Hugh (the trouble maker). Bobby was active in local organizations, serving as President of the Junior Woman's Club and President of the Triangle Circle at the Presbyterian Church.
