'Si' Sypolt was a 21 year Army career man serving part of his time in Korea. In 1946 he and his wife, Bobby, settled in Lakeside on a 10-acre ranch on Highway 67. For years their produce and exhibits at the Del Mar Fair won many blue ribbons for them.

Hugh taught ROTC at Hoover High School in San Diego. He later worked for the Lakeside School District in Maintenance.

Bobby was active in local organizations, serving as President of the Junior Woman's Club and President of the Triangle Circle at the Presbyterian Church.
