Memories Of Johnstown

Dear Lakeside Friends,
I am writing in response to your inquiry regarding the name "Johnstown." My parents Irene and Max Romig, moved there in 1913. Our Dad had a large chicken ranch just over the creek and our big white house was on top of a nearby rise, nestled in the huge boulders. It was called "Johnstown" then, we did have a man working for us nanrned John Barchii. We lived there unti11923. I remember there was a Standard Gas Station on the comer. We used to swim in Lindo Lake.
Over the years we've driven back on Old Highway 80 as the area changed and finally the house disappeared. At one time there was a mobile home park in the area below the house. Now there is not even a road leading toward the house. I have no idea regarding the names' history.
Your newsletters are so great to read, you certainly are active and doing a good job. Somewhere there are bricks in your courtyard with my sister and my name. Hello to Marcella from P. C. and Janean. She and my husband were classmates at Grossmont. He was Barney Young.
We have moved and I have boxes of photos to go through, will send the ones that pertain to Lakeside

Janean R. (Romig) Young

Johnstown is located on Old Highway 80 between Los Coches Road and Lake Jennings Road.
