In Loving Memory
BERYL C. COOPER. 78
Beryl was born September 17, 1923, in Vandervoort, Arkansas to I. C. and Myrtle Cooper. They came to Lakeside in the late 20s. Beryl graduated from Grossmont High School in 1941. At age 14, he joined the Army Air Corps serving: until 1945. Returning home, he worked with the Cooper family at the Bostonia Cement works. They were involved with the construction of the War Memorial Building (now the Lakeside VFW Hall).
On November 16, 1947, Beryl and Evelyn Pascoe were married at Lakeside's Olde Community Church. In 1960, they moved to Hamilton, Montana, and went into the cattle ranching: business supplementing: his income with concrete work.
Beryl was a Charter Member of Lakeside VFW Post #5867 and rejuvenated the Darby VFW serving as Commander. He was also a Life Member of the Lakeside Historical Society. People in the Hamilton area came for miles to see the beautiful Christmas Display which they started in memory of a son who was deceased.
Beryl passed away September I, 2002, and a celebration of his life was held at Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Evelyn; sons Clifford and Gary Lee; daughters Barbara Shook and Mary Thomas; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Roy Lee of Yuma, AZ, and Carl of Dallas, GA.
BESSIE FLORETTA FOSTER. 86
Bessie was born September 3, 1916, in McCartys, New Mexico. The family moved to Flagstaff, AZ, where she met and married Art Foster in 1935 while he was attending Arizona State College -- Art was the oldest son of Clarence and Ellis Foster. They moved back to his home town of Lakeside. Bessie was a longtime member of the Tawasi Club and helped plant the Carob Trees around Lakeside's Olde Community Church at Parkside and Maine.
Bessie passed away on September 23, and a Memorial Service was held at the Neptune Chapel in Lakeside. Survivors include a son Donald of Lakeside; daughter Judy Zimmerman of Mission Viejo; and several grandchildren.
