One of the best-kept secrets in Lakeside is the Lakeside Historical Society's Museum. It is located in Lindo Park, by the dance pavilion, next to the park ranger's house (although I guess we no longer have a park ranger due to county park budget cut-backs).
Some time ago two large metal cargo containers, and a lot of clever construction by our able Historical Society volunteers, were organized into a place for us to keep our precious Lakeside artifacts. The County Parks Department has graciously let us use Lindo Park as the site. We were grateful and happy. On special occasions, the Historical Society opens the museum to share with the community, and the visitors have a good time and often comment "I didn't know we had a museum in Lakeside."
The last time we opened the museum, a volunteer remarked how hot the south side walls are to the touch, and wondered what the temperature was when the doors were closed and building not in use. Hmmm . . . we realized this is probably not the best climate for our artifacts. Other volunteers said they wished the museum location was not so isolated, that the container doors are really difficult to open by one person, and each time we open the museum for the public, we need to do a lot of cleaning before hand.
So, a board recommendation was made to form a
