27th Annual Heritage Day
Elaine Brack
On October 24th, 145 plus gathered at the Lakeside Community Center for a great time of sharing and caring.
It was announced that our Society had received $10,000.00 for the Community Enhancement Grant from the San Diego hotel tax. Edna Kouns was instrumental in achieving this grant for the Museum restoration.
The program was about the need for volunteering. See article regarding the Society need for help.
As special "Thank You" was said to the following:
- To Cupid Catering for a great buffet
- Ray and Barbara Whitlock
- The ladies of the Lakeside Garden Club for table decorations
- Rod and Betty McMillen for advertising
- Marcella Williams and Elaine Brack for reservations
- Lee Bost and Don and Margaret Bright for being greeters
- Colleen Owens and her volunteers selling opportunity tickets
- Everyone behind the scenes.
- Betty McMillen and Gordon and Janice Shackelford for being the store keepers
- Estella Sommerville with the selling of the 2005 Calendars
Then the fun began with everyone standing and with the process of elimination the ones left standing were:
- Coming the furthermost: Jerry Crabb from Florida and Elaine Draper from Hawaii
- First Reservation: Bill and Cathy Hansen
- Newest Business Life Member: Hazy Meadow Ranch and Carriage Company
- Newest Life Member: Nita Padilla
The Opportunity Quilt was won by a friend of Barbara Whitlock's. She lives in Washington State. She has been buying chances for the quilt for many years and finally won. The Opportunity Quilt was made by the Woman's Club of Lakeside, Barbara Boggess, Yrene Woods, and Judy Puhn Hooper.
Mark your calendar now for 2005. We will be gathering again at the Lakeside Community Center, Sunday, October 23rd for another day of sharing and caring.
