Two Years Later:
Rising From The Ashes

Lost in the devastating Cedar Fire in October of 2003 was one of Lakeside's most Inspirational retreats, Featherstone Canyon Christian Camp. This beautiful and tranquil site was located adjacent to the Barona Indian Reservation, on the north side of El Cajon (El Capitan) Mountain. This camp's existence is mostly due to the hard work of Pastor Elmer D. Jenkins of Lakeside in the 1960's and 70's.
On the second anniversary of Featherstone's destruction, with the blessings of our Lord and the relentless efforts of local Christian Church parishioners, the retreat has begun its transformation of "rising from the ashes."
The October groundbreaking ceremony was a resounding success with over 250 in attendance. This historic event opened with choruses of God Bless America, followed by an invocation by Pastor David Skates from Christian Church of Lemon Grove.
After the opening ceremony all in attendance walked over to the location of where once stood the camp dinning hall. Turning over the first ceremonial shovel-full of dirt for the groundbreaking was Caroline Braun from San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob's office.
The last shovel-full of earth was turned by "Mystery Speaker" Ralph Eichelberger from Round Lake Christian Assembly in Ohio. He predicted that ". . . this [camp's] bell will ring again," and it did when he went over and gave it a ceremonial ring! The groundbreaking ceremony was followed by a delicious feast with
