Western Days Breakfast

Our Western Days Breakfast was a rousing success. We served over 150 meals of ham and eggs, hash brown potatoes, biscuits and gravy, juice and coffee. We had some great sponsors so we finally made a profit on all our hard work.
Thanks to all our cooks, Rose Gilbert, Pat Ellwood, Collen Owens, Marcella Rice, and the manager of the kitchen, Janis Shackelford. Our waitresses were, Stacy and Michelle Hensle, Donna Sweenes and Betty McMillen. We were rescued by the cleanup crew who were Dixie Lansdown, Abby Anders and Marilyn Jenkins. Gordon Shackelford was our ticket seller. There were many hands working together to make our event successful.
Outside on the patio Ester and Norman Croteau had organized an arts and crafts show. There was a lot of wonderful talent all in one spot with lots of shoppers browsing around before and after the Western Days Parade. Nita Padilla manned the Historical Society booth, selling Lakeside t-shirts and other goodies from our store. The parade was organized by our own Chamber of Commerce with Frank Hilliker as the chairman again.

Thank You, Thank You . . .

In the last issue of Historical Happenings, a plea went out for the donation of a gas stove for our kitchen. Much to our delight, the following letter was received:

Guest Speaker May 22nd

The guest speaker for the May 22nd meeting will be author Lemond Fetzer. He will discuss his newest book titled San Diego County Place Names A to Z.

Come to hear this humorous and informative talk and bring a friend. The speaker begins at 7:00 PM followed by a brief business meeting and refreshments.
Other books Lee has written include A Good Camp - Gold Mines of Julian and Cuyamaca, and A Year In The Cuyamacas.
April's guest speaker was Roy Wieghorst, son of world famous western artist, Olaf Wieghorst.  Roy told about the times and life of his famous Father. When he was a child Olaf sold one of his first paintings for 10 cents . . . later in life he sold one for a million dollars.
Olaf became friends with John Wayne, Ronald Regan and several other Presidents who had his western art work in their homes.
Following the talk, Roy gave each person in attendance a lithograph of a painting signed by Olaf Wieghorst! What a nice gift, coming from a nice man.
