ARLEEN DARROUGH, 83

  Arleen Morgan, Evans, Darrough passed away Feb. 24, 2008 in Eugene, Oregon. She was born Oct. 30, 1924 to Charles and Mabel Morgan in San Diego. Arleen was a longtime Lakeside resident and lifetime member of the Lakeside Historical Society.
  Arleen lived her early years in San Diego and Santee, moving to Lakeside with her parents and younger sister Carol in 1937. She attended Lakeside Elementary (Lakeside Jr. High) graduating in 1938. That same year her father Charles passed away. Arleen went on to Grossmont High School graduating in 1942. While at Grossmont she was a standout tennis player, Arleen also met her lifelong friends, Barbara (Goodman) Conley and Ruth (Gates) Foster at Grossmont.
  In 1942 Arleen's mother Mabel wed George McClain, and they went on to have a daughter Patsy. George and Mabel later purchased the Lemon Crest Ranch in Lakeside.
  Arleen held many jobs including teller at a local bank, secretary at Lakeview Elementary School and PBX operator at Brown's Military Academy in Pacific Beach where she would meet her future husband, Jack Evans. They married in 1947. To this union five children were born, Scott, Wendy, Jean, Lee Ann and Daniel. Arleen and Jack later divorced.

  Arleen married John Darrough in 1968. John brought three children of his own to the marriage, Carol, Jim and Susan. They lived in Lakeside and El Cajon for many years before moving to Oregon in 1980. Arleen and John had a small ranch near Springfield. Arleen enjoyed her cows, chickens, pheasant, geese, wildlife, endless blackberries, beautiful surroundings, gardening and tending to her flowers. They later moved to Eugene, Oregon to a retirement community where Arleen enjoyed many friends and activities.
  Arleen is survived by her loving husband John, sons Scott Evanst and Daniel (Kimberly) Evans, daughters Wendy Lewton, Jean (Dave) Mitchell and Lee Ann (Jeff) Silvis. Two sisters, Carol (Gene) Claussen and Pat (Eric) Sarkela. Also three stepchildren, Carol Curley, Jim (Lori) Darrough and Susan Darrough as well as 19 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and stepfather.
  A memorial service was held March 8, 2008 in Ramona, Caifornia with burial at Ramona Cemetery.
