In Loving Memory

ROBERT A. BARKER, 72


  Robert, of San Diego, died April 30. He was born in 1928, three years after his parents, Otis and Genevieve Barker, moved to Lakeside. He joined his three brothers, Leland, Earl and Bill. They started farming and ran a little market on Moreno Avenue, later moving to Main Street where they ran the Barker & Sons grocery store. The family was wholly involved in Lakeside community. Bob attended local schools. He served in the Navy during the Korean War. He worked at Naval Electronics for 15 years and retired from UCSD as the technical director of the linguistics department after 25 years. He was a Life Member of the Lakeside Historical Society.
  Survivors include his brothers, Leland Barker of Kingman, AZ. and William Barker of Sacramento. Many loving nieces and nephews. Services were held at Greenwood Mortuary on May 7th. Family suggests donations may be made to Lakeside Historical Society.

RAYMOND ARTHUR CLEMINS, 71


  Raymond was born on October 24, 1929 in San Diego and passed away peacefully on May 2, 2001. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1942. At the age of 12 he joined his father in the family business, Clemens Granite Company which he ran until his death. He was a master stonecutter. Much of the Granite came from Lakeside's Granite Quarry.
  Raymond was a Life Member of the Lakeside Historical Society. He and his family made a duplicate of the El Cap Dam monument which is situated in El Monte Park. He also contributed the engraved rock which is situated on Single Oak Drive under the large old Oak Tree.
  Survivors include his wife, Frankie; brother, Bill; daughters, Gloria Partington and Carol Ben Judah; sons, Russell and Andrew; and two grandchildren.
  Services were held May 7th at Alpine Cemetery.
