Like at the turn of the twentieth century, hundreds of enthusiastic people flocked to Lakeside to experience Lindo Lake, the Lakeside Inn and the weekend races.  On the weekend of June 4 - 6, they came from all-over the county in cars, buses, motorhomes, and even bicycles. One guest boasted of being from St. George, Utah!  They came because now Lakeside's past can be enjoyed in pictures and memorabilia at the Lakeside Museum.
  The opening of your museum was indeed a huge success.  To our delight, people were waiting at the front door even before the museum was open, and some visitors arrived at the last moment before closing, anxious to see and learn about Lakeside's past.  And many of the visitors lingered for more than an hour and everyone was thrilled to see your museum.
  We would like for you to enjoy the museum.  Please come by and visit, invite your family and neighbors, we are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 10 AM - 2 PM.

  There has been a surge of interest in the old flume which carried water from the back country to San Diego. Our own Regis Rosner wrote his memories of hunting rabbits along the wooden pipeline for our last newsletter. I understand that the Lakeside Irrigation District will have a short write-up included in their next bill.
  In keeping with this theme, the Lakeside Historical Society will have a speaker on that same subject at our next meeting, June 28, 2004, at 7:00 PM in our Olde Community Church.  His name is Chris Wray and he is a native San Diegan; and a photographer and author.
  Mr. Wray has worked in the map achieves of San Diego State University and the photo archives of San Diego Historical Society.  During his tenure in the education department of the Helix Water District, he did extensive research on the San Diego Flume system. He will speak to us on that subject, and has slides to accompany his talk.
  Mr. Wray is the author of several books which will be on display. Soon to be published is his Highways to History which is a guide to historic places throughout the mountains, and along the highways of San Diego County.
  It promises to be a very interesting evening and we hope you will join us. This will be our last meeting until September.
