In Loving Memory

EVELYN LUCILLE VANCE, 95


  Evelyn was born in Chicago, IL, October 29, 1905. She came to California in 1924 with her mother, Lucille Reddick and her brothers, Wilbert Palmer and William H. Chilvers. She and Miles Vance were married in 1926. They had 3 daughters: Lucille, Louise and Claire.
  Their children and many of their grandchildren attended local schools and were active in the Lakeside Community Presbyterian Church. Miles died in 1986 and Evelyn continued living on Green Oaks Rd. as long as she was able, always with a positive attitude and a beautiful smile.
She died May 19, 2001 and services were held at the Lakeside/Santee Funeral Chapel. Survivors include daughters, Lucille Fair and Claire Winius of Lakeside and Louise Washburn of Eureka, NV. 17 Grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren and 55 great-great-grandchildren.

MAMIE IDELL CLEVENGER, 72

  Mamie was born in Bluffton, IN, May 18,1929 and died at home with her family the day after her 72nd birthday.  She came to Lakeside with her cousin, Goldy and her husband, Rev. Willard Knox who was to be the new pastor of the Methodist Church on River St. She lived with them in the Manse. She worked at Long's Drug Store in El Cajon and Barker & Sons market on Main St. She met Richard Clevenger across the street in Watkins Bake Sweet Shop while he was home on leave from the Navy. They were married at the Olde Community Church June 18, 1948. Both were Life Members of the Lakeside Historical Society and were active in the VFW. Mamie served as president of the Auxiliary one year.
  Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons: Ted of Santee; Bob of Pleasanton, CA; Max of Lakeside; Sister, Helen Ray of Decatur, IN; brothers, Wayne, Billy and Rodger Flowers of Bluffton, IN; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
  Services were held at El Camino Mortuary Chapel, San Diego.

WILLIAM SKINNER, 85

  Many of you will remember Bill Skinner who lived in Lakeside for many years. He and his wife Elizabeth were married on May 22, 1937. She passed away in 1956. They had two daughters, Sally and Linda. Nov. 15, 1957, he married Iona Marco and added one daughter and two sons to the family. He and his partner, Hart Dunham, developed one of the largest egg ranches in San Diego Co. in the Ramona area. Hart retired in 1967, and Bill in the 1970's. Bill and Iona continued living in Ramona until 2000. They were involved members of the First Congregational Church of Ramona. Bill was a 32nd degree Mason in Nebraska and California.
  Bill is survived by his wife, Iona; daughters, Sally Johnson of NC, Linda Allen of Petaluma, CA, and Paula Chung of Reno, NV; stepsons, Rusty Ryan of KS and Jack Ryan of MT; 14 grandchildren and 13 great great-grandchildren. He died April 8, 2001, and memorial services were held at the First Congregational Church in Ramona on June 2, 2001.
