Comments: Enjoyed the Lakeside Historical Web site very much. My father, Herbert Otto MARCKS was born in Lakeside in 1911. My grandfather, Hugo "Otto" MARCKS owned a grocery store on Main street during the depression. My family was living in Lakeside when I was born on the way to the hospital in El Cajon in 1934. I can remember fishing in Lindo Lake with my brother, Frank, when we were just youngsters. Lots of picnics, lots of good times. At one time, we lived in a house and our back yard had a view of the old Lakeside Rodeo grounds. I think that area is where the freeway is now. We also lived in a white house two or three houses from the corner across where Dane and Cecil? had their restaurant. The house is still there. There is a monument to my grandfather in front to the Middle School, under the flag pole. When we were in grade school, we used to go out there and say our pledge allegiance to the flag. There are many more memories I have of Lakeside as a child, all good.
