Foster Brothers Die Same Day
RAYMOND FOSTER -- GORDON FOSTER
Raymond Foster,83, of Ramona died on Saturday morning, June 8, 2002. And, his brother Gordon Foster, 87, died later that same day in Fallbrook (where he had resided since 1945).
Both boys spent their early years with their parents, Ralph and Alice Foster, and two sisters Mildred and Helen in Pamo Valley and in Lakeside. They had dairies in Pamo and also in Dexter Valley on the former Weston Dairy. They attended local schools. Gordon graduated from Grossmont High in 1931, and Ray in 1937.
Gordon moved to Fallbrook in 1945 where he grew avocados and started the Cal-Brook Avocado Packing House and later the Foster Avocado Packing House. He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
Ray, although he ran his dairy in Pamo Valley north of Ramona, he remained close to Lakeside. He remained an active member and President of the '37 Alumni Class of Grossmont. He was a life member of the Lakeside Historical Society.
Their father, Ralph Foster, was the first director of the Resource Conservation District in Ramona. In 1953, Ray followed suit and implemented soil and water testing in the 1980's. He was President in 1984 and was chosen to represent the Ramona-Julian Resource Conservation District at Litchfield, Arizona, and received the annual Goodyear Award. In all, he volunteered 43 years before retiring in 1996.
Among survivors are many loving friends and family in the Lakeside and Ramona area.
A memorial gathering was held Saturday, June 15, at 10:30 AM at the Pamo Ranch for Raymond. Then, followed by a memorial service at 1:30 PM at the Ramona Cemetery for Gordon.
