Changes Are Happening
Elaine Brack

Have you noticed anything that has been changing around the Society in the last few months?  If you haven't, look around. There is a very nice lady, a recent member, who has been so busy with working on things around the Society.
She has been a volunteer now for about 2-3 months and has been working in the Store and the Museum and most recently the yard. She has been cleaning and learning about the things in the Society and now she is pulling the weeds and cleaning the yard up because of the weather and the winds.
Her name is Nita Padilla and she worked in the post office for a long time and may have been your mail lady .She and her husband, Eddie, recently retired and now she is really working around the Society. Come and greet her or better yet become a volunteer in any way you can.
If you have free time and would like to become involved contact Edna Kouns at 561-1190 or the Society at 561-1886 and someone will be calling you.

In Loving Memory

Hi,
Unfortunately I have very bad news to tell all of you. My beloved Edie [Slunka (Cates Swearington); November 30, 1928 to December 24, 2004] passed away on December 24th. She died peacefully in her sleep, the way that she wanted to go. She will be missed more then you will ever know. As many of you know, Edie had diabetes and three vertebras out of place, which was extremely painful for her. Edie also had high blood pressure and had a ball in her uterus pushing her stomach into its proper place. Even though Edie was in pain, no one would ever know- she always smiled and was taking care of others.
Edie wanted to be cremated, which I have done; and will be placed in the family burial plot in La Mirada, along side the rest of our family. Edie will be missed dearly and I thank all of you who loved her. She will be missed every moment, but now she is not in pain and watching over all of us.
Mitzy (our poodle) still does not understand, and searches daily for her mom. Mitzy is good company however for me. I again thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers.

Love,
Ed and Mitzy
