CLOYCE BURKHARDT, 84
Cloyce was born in Kansas December 18.1916, and passed away at his home in Lakeside. He and his parents settled in California in 1940. He worked for Consolidated Aircraft retiring in 1975. He married Ruth Emery in 1942 and they were involved with the local schools where their children attended. They have been members and supporters of the Lakeside Historical Society for many years.
Besides his wife of 58 years, he leaves his daughter Beverly Reves of El Cajon; James Burkhardt of Linda Vista; a granddaughter Keala Reves of El Cajon. Services were held July 23 at Lakeside/Santee Funeral Chapel.
CHARLES MADISON CRAY, 75
Charles was born in Alabama November 3.1925. He joined the Marine Corp in 1942 and received his basic training in San Diego and was sent into action at Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands during WW2. He was stationed at Gillespie Field where he met Clarabell Huffman. They were married on June 22. 1944, and moved to Birmingham Alabama where Charles finished his time in the service.
Charlie, Clarabell and their daughter Karen came to Lakeside in 1949 where they established their present home. Charlie helped build the War Memorial Building and was President of Lakeside VFW Post 5867. President of the Sportsman's Club, Lakeside Little League coach and a member of the Lakeside Historical Society.
Charlie was a carpenter, auto mechanic and service manager of John Hine Pontiac before starting his own business as an independent Cornwell Tool distributor from which he retired 1988.
He passed away peacefully on July 22. 2001. Internment is pending at Fort Rosecrans. Survivors include his wife. Clarabell; daughters Karen Bradey of Warner Springs, Cheryl Bernardino of Pacific Beach and Linda Wall of Lakeside; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brothers Douglas Cray of Alabama and Donald Cray of Georgia.
MARJORIE KEPHART LINDEM, 81
Marjorie was born September 9, 1919 in North Dakota, the youngest member of Mae and Elby Kephart's five children (Les was the oldest). The family came to Lakeside in 1923 and attended the local schools. Marjorie graduated from Grossmont in 1937. She married Everett Lindem in 1941 and they made their home in Del Mar. They have kept in touch with Lakeside and have been members of the Lakeside Historical Society for several years.
Survivors include her husband Everett; two daughters, Sandra Bowman of Lakeside and Karen Rosso; a son Gary; 8 grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. Also, one brother Ralph of Oregon. Donations may be made to San Diego Hospice.
