A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to show off Lakeside's Historic District.  Our new member Kathy Flanigan came to town for a visit (she is the lady who worked so hard on our Historic Survey a couple of years ago).  Kathy spent many hours researching fifty old cottages and buildings in Lakeside, mostly within our Historic District.  She researched the archives and newspaper clippings at the San Diego Library, and other sources that she is privy to and found information about when the buildings were built and by whom.  And, the line of property owners over the years.  Kathy has authored several research books that are in the California Room of the San Diego Library.  A copy of Lakeside's Historic Survey is on hand for your reading pleasure at the Lakeside History Center -- it is very interesting, so come on by to see it.

Guest Speaker For April 22 Meeting

  If you want to see some really wonderful historic buildings that have been restored, then come to the April 22nd meeting of the Historical Society.  The Resource Conservation Commission from the city of Chula Vista will be showing slides of their preservation efforts and explaining how the Mills Act can help owners of historic properties save money on their property tax bills.  The Mills Act was recently adopted by our Board of Supervisors, so now even Lakesiders can take advantage of the savings. If you know of anyone who owns an old house or building, please invite them to come to this very interesting meeting. The speaker will begin at 7:00 PM, followed by a brief business meeting and refreshments. Everyone is welcome!
