August Yard Sale: Great Success

Our annual yard sale was a great fundraiser for the Historical Society. Thanks for all your great donations!
Thanks also to our wonderful group of volunteers who spent their time and talent setting up displays, pricing items, selling treasures and for the special clean up crew who packed up all the leftovers. We all worked hard but had a ball wheeling and dealing!
Our social hall and patio were filled with tables of bargains. Parking was a problem since there was a lot of shoppers coming and going during the two day event. We had hung yard sale signs around town so it attracted a lot of bargain hunters . . . it was a bustling place.
Nita Padilla and Betty McMillen were the co-chairs and organizers of the event and afterwards they took on the challenge of dispersing the leftovers which went to the Lakeside Christian Help Center, Friends of the Lakeside Library, Goodwill, Battered Women's Shelter and the Lakeside River Park Conservancy's upcoming barn sale which will be in the Fall.
Thanks everyone for your support, we made over $2,400.00!

Laguna Mountain Living History

The Laguna Mountain Volunteer Association will be hosting their Living History program on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, beginning at 9am and continuing through out the day.
This is a fun way to see how the pioneers, mountain men, gold prospectors, Indians and El Centro farmers came to visit, live and settle in the beautiful Laguna Mountains. You will be visiting their various camp sites.
Take Sunrise Highway to the rustic old Stone Lodge and Visitors Center. Along the way you will see some beautiful scenery.

DAIRY NEWS BITS
Cathy Hansen

The Dairy Committee is very appreciative of the donations by Dolores Gruner to the Dairy Collection. A series of items called "The Dairy Medical Items" includes salves, ointments and two sizes of syringes all used in the animal husbandry field. Dolores said humans also benefited from and little dab of salve to a wound.
A butter paddle was also donated to the collection. Dolores said she has made many pounds of butter using this paddle.
We encourage all readers of this column to keep their eye open for dairy items and ask your friends and neighbors to add to our collection.
On the day of the San Vicente Dam Raise Celebration, Lakesider Roger Simpson now living in Santee joined the group to participate in this historic event. On the ride up to the site Roger told us as a high school student he milked for the Fosters Dairy Farm. He would milk in the morning, go to school, and return for the evening milking. If you know someone who was a milker or worked on a dairy in Lakeside, please drop us a note.
