Keeping Track of Our Treasurers
Chris Herzog, Curator
Thank you to our members and friends of Lakeside for so many articles donated to the Lakeside Museum. Our most recent donation is from Bruce Nemecheck, a collection of cameras and accessories. The museum committee is looking forward to organizing this into a display for the public. Maybe you would like to help with that exhibit.
Every article we have in the Museum and in the Old Church must be identified and catalogued. This is a huge and important job. The Curator and museum committee identifies the articles and gathers as much information about the articles as possible, and then information is put into the computer (PastPerfect Museum software program) for reference.
This is where you come in--the basis of that information comes from the donor, and it is so important that when an article is given that a Deed of Gift form be filled out describing details and history. Please be sure to ask for that form and fill it out when a donation is made to the Historical Society.
For our volunteer help, usually the best work is accomplished by people who are working on a topic they like. So, we have divided our artifact collections into categories, or sub-committees, in the hopes of attracting more members to help out.
One sub-committee we have is the costume committee, which is very active, as you may have experienced if you attended the Vintage Fashions Tea on February 12, 2006. They meet on Thursday mornings.
Another sub-committee is photographs and paper. We have many photos and maps that need organizing, and letters and post cards of historic interest. We need someone to organize these items and oversee making copies of our historical photographs for display and preservation. Our history is immediately enjoyed through photos, a picture tells it all, and we have some great old photos that need to be shared.
Other sub-committees are (but not limited to): tools, glassware and china, linens and textiles, equestrian tack and farm implements. What is your passion?
To work at the Historical Society, please call President Chris Herzog 561-0372, or see me on most Fridays 10-2 p.m. at the history center, 561-1886. "Many hands, many minds, one goal."
